Help

Aloha!

Thanks for your interest in HeartBeatOfKauai.com. The system is designed to be easy to use and we hope you find this free Kauai community service to be helpful.

Start by Registering

You can view ads without registering, but to post an ad please register (your email address will be kept private).

After you register, you will automatically receive an email message that provides your username, password, and login URL (a “URL” is a full web site address).

Post Your Ads

Once registered you can post ads.

The process is simple:

  • Select a Category and click the orange “Go” button. You’ll see each category is followed by “$0”. The software we use has the ability to charge for listings, but all classified as on HeartBeat of Kauai are free.
  • Enter your ad listing information. Items with an asterisk * are required data fields.
  • Entering “tags” will help your ad be found. Tags are “keywords” that describe what you’re advertising. Here’s an example for an event (note the comma between each keyword or keyword phrase): “event, workshop, training, Reiki Level II, Kilauea, Kauai, Hawaii, energy work, energy healing, ki, laying on of hands, Reiki symbols, Reiki attunement.” If you teach Reiki, you can probably think of even more tags that would be useful.
  • Ad at least one image to your ad. Click the Browse button and navigate to the image file location on your local computer. The maximum size of each image is 250 KB and you can add up to three images per ad.
  • Click the orange “Continue” button.
  • Double-check your ad and carefully read the “Rules and Guidelines.” If you agree to the site’s terms and conditions, click the orange “Proceed” button.
  • Your ad has now been submitted for review by one of the site’s administrators. Ads that meet the rules and guidelines (terms of service) are approved and then appear in the ad listings. To check the status of your ad or ads, make sure you’re logged in and click the “My Dashboard” link that appears near the top-right on all pages of the site.
  • Approved ads can be edited and/or paused using the My Dashboard features.
  • Ads expire after 30 days and you’re welcome to create a new ad on the same subject, if needed.

Featured Listings

On the home page above the recently approved ads, “Featured Listings” are displayed. This section highlights listings submitted by our premium advertisers. To learn more about our HeartBeatOfKauai.com advertising opportunities, please click here.

Browsing Through Ads

There are a number of ways to find what you’re looking for. The easiest is to use the “Search Classified Ads” tool on the right-hand “sidebar.” Just enter a search term keyword, on the drop-down menu choose whether you want to search within “All Categories” or a specific category, and then click the orange “Search” button.

Promoting Your and Other’s Ads

Below each ad, you’ll see some cool “social media” shortcut icon links. If you’d like to help get the word out about an add (or blog post), it will really help to share on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon, and other leading social networks.

Contact Ad Posters

On the right-hand sidebar next to ads, you’ll see three tabs: Map, Contact, and Poster. If the ad contains a correct address, Map will display a Google Map of the location. Contact allows you to contact the poster regarding their ad, while keeping the poster’s email address private (and out of the hands of junk email spammers). Poster provides a link to their profile, which includes any information they’ve shared about themselves, along with their current and previous ads posted. Filling out the profile information is a great way to build community for those who are interested.

Sign Up for Our Ezine

Make sure to subscribe to our free HeartBeat of Kauai email newsletter. You’ll find the subscription box on the right-hand sidebar below the sponsor banners and search function. Please note that registering on HeartBeatOfKauai.com to post ads does not automatically subscribe you to the HeartBeat of Kauai email newsletter; they’re two separate processes.

Tag Cloud

Another way to find ads that are relevant to your interests is to scroll to the bottom “footer” section of each page. There on the left you’ll find a “tag cloud” that illustrates popular tags (the larger the tag’s type, the more popular it is on the site). When you click a tag link, you’ll land on a page that contains a listing of web pages on the site that include the selected tag.

I’m receiving a message that my images are too large. How can I reduce the size?

  • There are two factors: 1.) Image size; 2.) Image quality. If you don’t have an image editor on your computer–or don’t know how to use it–you can use one of the free on-line “image shrinking” programs.
  • To visit one we’ve used, click > ShrinkPictures.com
