About Me

“We are a story-telling people, and while our thoughts and stories, including the ‘I’ and ‘me’ thoughts, are important, the great freedom or liberation is realizing that we are not our thoughts—which, like the emotional reactions they produce, come and go—but the ever-present awareness or consciousness which is always here.”

This is my message, spelled out in my book, End Your Story, Begin Your Life: Wake Up, Let Go, Live Free (also available as an audiobook).

I native of New Zealand and was on a spiritual journey for twenty years, beginning in 1975 with the teachings of yoga, Zen, and J. Krishnamurti. In 1984 I met Jean Klein, a European and a master of the nondual, or direct path to self-realization. Under his guidance, I finally awakened to freedom—freedom from the “I,” the “me,” and all its stories—in the spring of 1995. My mission now is to guide others to the same realization but in a much shorter time. I teach at Esalen Institute, in Los Angeles, New Zealand, and Australia, and also offer private sessions.

The goal of my work is to bring the teachings of self-realization down from the mountaintop into the marketplace, and the daily lives of ordinary people. These teachings show you how to live productively and at peace, free of emotional reactivity, one with the ease, harmony, and flow of life. They are truly liberating!
